2 girls with a book

Library

The new Library is a focal point of the school. It helps to enrich and enhance our curriculum and the school philosophy. It is a centre of learning and resources.

Girls can borrow books from the library. Their recommendations and requests are always carefully considered when new books are purchased. Open Library, at break times, gives the girls the opportunity to curl up on a bean bag or a reading pod with a good book. The Year 6 Library Ambassadors are efficient and enthusiastic.

The Library is organised in sections: Fiction, Easy Readers, Picture Books, Year 6 Only, Non-Fiction, Classics, Comic and Graphic Novels. We have around 8,000 books as well as DVDs, posters, story tapes, and a range of periodicals and newspapers. The Librarian arranges author visits, organises World Book Day and selects and advises on material for School and Staff Libraries.

In lessons, books are exchanged, stories read and shared, and library and study skills taught. Pupils also come in from other lessons to source materials. The Library pods are used for Guided Reading groups as well.
