Dear Parents,
I have spent the last few days at the IAPS Heads’ conference where the theme was ‘Emerging with Ambition’. There was a real focus on what we have learned as leaders through the pandemic and how we navigate our schools moving forward. It included discussions around the future of IT and the computing curriculum, and ISEB (Independent Schools Examinations Board) gave an interesting update on how assessment is developing to provide a broader range of assessing children beyond English, Maths, VR and NVR. This does not mean that there will be any instant changes to the 11+ process, but that the right conversations are taking place about assessment and a recognition that our children have a range of skills and passions beyond the four areas mentioned above.
It has been a good time to reflect and prompt discussions with staff so that we can consider ways in which we continue to improve on what we offer at Bute House.
Meanwhile, back at school it has been another tremendously busy week with the first fixtures taking place and two superb whole school assemblies. Our Wednesday assembly focused on the European Day of Languages, which is being celebrated this Sunday, and we found out that at Bute House alone we speak 27 languages between us!
Today we heard from 6D who had prepared a brilliant Harvest Festival assembly, which ended with some wonderful piano performances.
Thank you for your generous donations, which will be going to Hammersmith and Fulham foodbank. I hope you will enjoy reading the news items and seeing the photos of school life in action.
I would like to thank the House Committee for welcoming me so warmly to the first House Committee meeting on Tuesday and for presenting me with a wonderful Bute House treasure box where I will keep fond memories of my time here. I am looking forward to working in partnership with parents and, as a starting point, we will be sending out a questionnaire next week to gather your views about what the school is already doing well and things that we might consider developing moving forward. More guidance and information will be sent to you on Monday 27th September.
I wish you a very happy weekend.

Today’s assembly’s theme, and this time of year in general, is not only important for various different religions, but it also serves as an opportunity for all of us to reflect back on the past and make plans for the future. Furthermore, it’s a time to be grateful for the food on our tables and to consider those less fortunate in the world. The assembly also touched on the idea that Harvest and Autumn can serve as a time to get inspired. Thank you to the pupils in 6D for their informative and reflective assembly.
Well done for all your food donations. We delivered 333.3kg of food to the Hammersmith and Fulham Food Bank which will provide 555 meals to those most in need in our borough. In the photo, you can see the large warehouse in Wandsworth where all the food is collected, sorted, and distributed by a group of volunteers.
A reminder to new parents in Reception, Year 2 and Year 4, and all parents in Year 3, we are looking forward to seeing you at The New Parents’ BBQ from 6pm on Wednesday 29th September.
Every year we are keen to draw your attention to maintaining safe practices with your daughter while they are online. The school has strong safeguarding measures and software in place that filter and screen any inappropriate content at school, and during lessons, all internet activity is constantly monitored for every pupil. However, when they leave the school, without the correct measures in place, your daughter could be exposed to inappropriate content.

As always if you have any questions, please do get in touch with the school, and we will do our best to offer guidance and advice.
Kind regards,

Bake Sale is on Friday 1st October. This will take place from 3:30 – 4:00pm on the school forecourt. Students can attend with adult supervision only after they have been dismissed by their Form Teacher at the usual time. Students who participate in a club afterschool on a Friday must go straight to their club or the waiting room. A huge thanks to the House Committee for organising the Bake Sale.
Sunday 26th September is the official European Day of Languages, which has been celebrated every year since 2001 to bring us closer together. We marked this date in school with a special assembly on Wednesday, in which we learnt about all the languages spoken in school, reflected on the benefits of learning other languages, and tested the teachers’ skills with a game of Call my Bluff with French and Spanish words!
Our Y6 language ambassadors, Matilda and Betta, made everyone aware of the competition “Design the Logo”. Find all the information you need here: https://edl.ecml.at/Activities/EDLT-ShirtContest/tabid/3147/Default.aspx
If your daughter takes part, we’d love to see her entry, so please encourage them to bring it in for a celebratory display.
Reception have been learning about the Jewish festival of Rosh Hashanah that took place earlier in September. After finding out about some of the things that Jewish children do to celebrate, we shared apples and honey and wished each other ‘shana tova’.
