It is lovely to be back and see the children again after half term, I hope you all had a relaxing break.
I enjoyed meeting many of you at the Middle School Curriculum Evening on Tuesday and I hope you felt it was informative. This was followed by the Supper Party organised by our fabulous House Committee.
The whole school assembly on Wednesday focused on our Sapphire Learning Power – Initiative and Independence. The Sapphire Learning Power team entertained us all with a film noir in which their crime was not using these learning powers! Luckily Detective Nibbles (AKA Mr Ash Charles) came to the rescue. Please ask your children how they have used their Sapphire Power this week.
We’ve had some great fixtures this week – congratulations to all the girls who took part in football and netball matches.
It has also been a real pleasure to have spent some time getting to know the parent volunteers within the House Committee. A huge thank you to those out-going members for all their support over the last few years and welcome to the new team! I was able to share a little feedback on the fledgling school development plan and the outcomes of the three questionnaires. The new development plan will be launched and shared with the wider school community at the beginning of the spring term.
Thank you to those parents who joined our virtual communications workshop on Wednesday and I would like to remind you that there is one more scheduled for next week, on Thursday 11 November at 2pm. Kindly note that you do not need to book a place in advance in order to attend. The link for this is below:
I wish you a safe and sparkling firework night and a very good weekend.
This week, Reception have been learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali which is the festival of light. They have acted out the story of Rama and Sita, explored Rangoli patterns, designed mehndi patterns and made diva lamps. In the story, the villagers lit lots of lamps to welcome Rama and Sita home, so Reception used clay to make their own lamps. The girls have also discussed how some Diwali traditions such as wearing special clothes, giving gifts and sharing special food are similar to other festivals they celebrate with their own families. Further photos are on our website.
Huge congratulations to Calista Fenton, Isabel Perrett, Helena Hickman, Violeta Malpica, Imogen Butterworth and Vittoria Vendramin Giardina who have been selected to run in the London Youth Games Cross Country race on Saturday 20th November 2021. These young runners recently performed well at the Ealing School’s Cross Country event and now have the opportunity to compete against other athletes from all 33 London boroughs. We wish the girls success at this event.
Well done to all of the girls who played in the football match against St Peter’s this week. Bute House managed to win the games 6 – 0 and 1 – 0 with Angelina scoring one goal whilst Ayda, Beatrix and Sophie each scored two goals. All the players worked hard, developed their game understanding and improved their confidence throughout the afternoon.
This week, the whole school assembly was about Sapphire Power. A crime had been committed at Bute House where people had forgotten how to use their initiative and independence! Ms Bradshaw had to call Detective Nibbles who came along and was luckily able to solve the crime. He encouraged everyone to use their 5 Bs – brain, board, book, buddy and boss.
Following on from the Learning Powers assembly, the girls were encouraged to write a story or poem about how Nibbles used his Sapphire Power. This could be handwritten, typed or in the form of a comic strip.
