LSSA Grand Final – Results are in!

Huge congratulations to the 15 the girls who have participated in the LSSA competition. Following the heat at Latymer School last month, the whole squad qualified for the Grand Final which was held at JAGS on Wednesday 22nd June. All the girls performed fantastically with lots of medals won and points gained for the school. Everyone’s hard work meant that Bute WON the overall girls competition which is a great achievement. Well done everyone!

Art Workshop

Our last St Stephen’s Art workshop of the year took place on Thursday morning. This was our fourth session. The Year 3 boys and girls worked extremely hard to finish their self-portrait collages. The final stage of the project required them to explore drawing into a red terracotta clay tile and experiment using a variety of small objects to create background patterns. We loved having the school here and hope to see them again next year!

Year 3 Trip to Brighton

Year 3 enjoyed their Geography trip to Brighton in order to understand a little more about a typical English seaside town.

Here are some of their comments:

Aiyana Patel (3H): I enjoyed going on a tour and learning about the pier that burnt down.

Alexa Tomizuka Winnefeld (3K): I enjoyed walking around the town and finding out about Brighton’s history. The pier that burnt down is listed so they cannot rebuild it.

Elsie Dalhuisen (3G): I enjoyed learning about the place that I am moving to. Our tour guide told us a lot of facts about Brighton.

Learning Powers Assembly

Last week we had a fantastic Learning Powers assembly celebrating our Tanzanite Power – Diversity and Inclusion. We heard all about how diversity is found in everything: from our bodies, our mind, the food we eat, our families and cultural heritage to the games we play and the clothes that we wear.

The girls really loved hearing Ms Greenwood recite a poem by Benjamin Zephaniah called ‘The British’. In this poem we hear about the wonderful and eclectic mix of people we call British. We will publish it here so you can read it again at home.

The girls have been busy using their Tanzanite Power throughout the week, discussing about what diversity means to them, how important it is to celebrate differences and why we should be inclusive.

Lower School created some stunning artworks inspired by the poem, Middle School have created very interesting visual boards that have facilitated discussion and Upper School were inspired to create their own poems about the topic.

Thank you to Shanzay and Anne, our Year 6 Diversity Ambassadors, who filmed and interviewed pupils discussing the topic.
Also, thank you to all the Tanzanite Power teaching team for making this such a fun, inspirational and informative assembly!
